Similarly Different

Two movies I saw recently and really enjoyed were:"Thavamai Thavamirundu" (Tamil) and "Rang De Basanti".

Though in two different languages and two varied themes they were both similar but still different.

Both were stories which we have already seen over and over again but... the treatments are what makes them click with the audience.

Both have moments in them which bring a lump to your throat, tears to your eyes which come out so naturally .......maybe it was the acting (natural & a great job by all in the cast ), the screenplay and the direction that worked the magic.

Both the movies make you THINK and THINK HARD at that!Like one reviewer called RDB as a dream & a nightmare.I think it applies to TT too.....!

A dream he justified is what makes you want to go back to sleep & a nightmare helps your sleep vanish!

In a way both the films do exactly that, while TT has a first half so predictable & a "I know what's coming next" feel... RDB has a first half which breezes past so fast that you hardly realise that the film is half way through....

IT's in the second half that things change and the message that the director wants to convey is conveyed so smoothly and subtly that at the end of the film you take home the message and remember it too!

Loving your parents and serving them and loving your country and serving her in the best way you can are the messages the two films convey.

Both themes we have been overloaded with, but.... what what makes these two films stand out is .......... that they both have been shot believably. If at all there is anyone to blame for the current situation it is YOU.
SO LOOK IN is what the films say & they succeed.

Both have touched the right chords and force us to try and look inwards. A journey so essential in today's rat race. We do not take time for this journey inwards.
It definitely is difficult but not impossible if each of us decides to do our bit.

Wat say?

hi..here for the first time.. and read it in my blog tht u r also an Aamir fan... :D great to hear tht..
And yeah RDB rocks.. and the message was conveyed in the right manner tht ppl will think..
After seeing the movie, i was lost in thoughts for a long long time tht my friends had to drag me out of tht mood :)
Am glad to see such movies being made when all tht we get to see is lots of sleazy flicks nowadays....

Reg TT, i wanted to see tht movie... but didn't get a chance.. might see it soon.. esply after I saw Autograph, i should see Cheran's next one for sure.. he directs his film with lots of originality.. isn't it?
Ok, i guess i've rambled alot.. let me stop now.. :)

i dont get it...i have no idea why rdb is being celebrated as a big deal. i liked the editing.the story was pathetic.the plot was predictable.the songs were a saving grace though.but then again, i am an anti harry potter dude as well!

Hi Prasad Welcome!
u shud TT for its a well made film!
Cheran sure tries to maintain authenticity be it accent or lifestyle. Kudos to Raj kiran & Saranya who are awesome!

That's what i meant Poison, when i said they were old plots. Treatment is what made it different.

i haven't seen RDB but as u say many movies have gone over this issue of parents and country again and again... these movies probably has a longer effect (or impact or stays in the mind for a longer period of time) than the usual ones and eventually and sadly dies off!!!... but am really glad these kind of movies are increasing in numbers...

like this movie anniyan, which was for a social cause and saying that the problem is with you... but ask many people after the movie and all they say is we want an anniyan to remove corruption... they forget the main message which was do what you do correctly (legally, morally, ethically)... but all that stays in the mind is "wish there was a anniyan to help me here!"...

Well Karthik u sure are right! But like u said the fact that the attempt is continuing is what makes us hopeful.

Me too Neha!I enjoyed the first half & expected a lot more from the second half.

Hey Swahilya, thanx but nothing like seeing them first hand.

Yes EB, for all the media hype that Padmapriya was getting i expected her to be great, but I thought Raj kiran & Saranya were a class apart.

I saw autograph. But somehow, TT, I felt wasn't as entertaining as Autograph was. Of course, am not talking about the message it conveyed. RDB... ah. I've spoken about it enough. Lovely movie. TT, I thought, would have made a better book than it made a movie. But since the movie is good, I can only wonder how well the book would have fared.

I saw both TT and RDB.Awesome movies. They are worth being called as quality films. Unlike other absurd movies which is all about boosting the hero's image, this film made me laugh ,cry and had me in a different world altogether.

What makes these movies different Sweta is that that they actually have a story! Strange though it may sound, Very few films have a story these days.

Hi Ajay! welcome back!

I don't your wait will be too long Bala, the DVD market is booming with stiff competition.

Hi Keshi!Welcome. So how was the holiday? Only one advice....
See RDB with no expections u will not be disappointed!
