Madras Nalla Madras!
Catching up with college friends is what I've doing of late & met up with so many of them. One of them was Sheela. We did our PG together & what fun we had as a team.....! We joined coaching classes for UPSC exams & were the last students to join. Hence though we didn't notice all the students in the class ,they did. Amongst them, was a whole group of 10 of our classmates who would constantly be talking whenever we entered looking in our direction & in this group was a guy who was typically Tall, Dark & Handsome(TDH) whom Sheela had a crush on. Whenever we were on our way to the classes or returning from there, Sheela would talk about him & only him! I was so irritated that one day I told her that I am going to tell him how much she liked him. She was shocked but didn't believe I could. The next day was the deadline & I had to tell him. She came really well dressed to class & constantly was nudging me to remind me of the deadline. If I lost the bet I wud have to give her a treat. I told her to wait & see. Once the classes for the day were over, while we were on our way out with Sheela all set for my treat, I saw Mr. TDH walking towards us. When we were close I smiled, stopped & started conversation with him, while Sheela continued walking unware of my absence. When she realized & looked back I was pointing out to her . Both he & I were smiling. SHE BLUSHED & was horrified at the same time. After a few more minutes with him I went to her.... VICTORY written all over my face. She gave me the treat wanting to know what exactly I told him. I told her , I told him EVERYTHING! Shocked she asked me how he reacted. I smiled. I told her ,he said he would talk to her tomorrow. Poor thing I'm sure she hadn't slept that night. The next day she was so silent for the entire journey & as we entered so did TDH on his bike . He turned & smiled. She was sure now that I had told him everything!
She was embarrassed while I continued behaving my normal self but really felt sorry for lying to her. Finally I decided to tell her the truth. That evening as we were leaving I told Sheela , that I had lied to her & what TDH& I spoke about were notes about the subject he had chosen. Then she asked me why both looked in her direction, I told her that I was telling him how even she was interested in that subject. If looks could kill,I would not have been here today to tell you all this.
But what surprised me was both TDH & I were never formally introduced but still knew each other's names & didn't have a problem when we spoke first. It was only later that Sheela & I came to know that the entire gang found out all about us & were teasing TDH & ME as we both had similar noses. So that's why everytime we entered the whole group would turn in our direction & then smile amongst themselves. Soon we became a good group of friends but then today, each one has gone on his way. Few in the group managed to get into the services while the rest of us moved in different directions. But even the other day when Sheela &I met we spoke about this & laughed till we cried. WHAT WONDERFUL MEMORIES!!!
March was also memorable for I took up a short term assignment of teaching HR students . It was really hectic but excellent nevertheless! It was a total sense of deja vu as even the last time I left Chennai 14 years back ,the last assignment was a teaching one to PG students. The annual exams of my kids kept me busy since April & now it is time to leave MADRAS NALLA MADRAS with excellent memories!
The icing on the cake was watching a lovely movie called "MOZHI" today. Awesome is how I would sum up the experience. That silence conveys much more than words is what touches you. Jyothika has sure given a power packed & award winning performance . So has Prithviraj! Prakash Raj ( O how much I admire this actor! ) is too good for words. Chennai always has had a special place in my heart! And this time too I leave Chennai with some GREAT MEMORIES.
My next post will be from Bangalore.
TAKE CARE!
